Our lab researched performant actuators from its inception in 1990, and as such this research line forms the basis for many of the other topics BruBotics' works on.
In order to develop human-centric robotic systems, these systems need to be intrinsically safe. Compliant elements such as springs and inflated actuators can provide the needed compliance to provide safe actuation. When developing mobile robotics systems that require high power, energy efficiency becomes crucial. BruBotics has developed several compliant actuation units based on for instance variable stiffness, remote actuation or parallel actuation.
